How GCSEs, AS and A levels will be awarded in summer 2021: A summary

All parents / carers of Year 11 pupils have already been informed that GCSE exams are not running this year; as with the situation last year, teachers will be awarding grades based on a range of evidence gathered; below is a more detailed breakdown of how this is being done, there is also a detailed PDF guide produced by Ofqual.

How your grade will be determined:

  • graded by teacher judgement, with grades signed off by your Headteacher before being submitted to the exam board
  • not graded by an algorithm
  • school assessments can continue – we will let you know the timings of any assessments
  • you’ll only be assessed on what you’ve been taught
  • we will tell you the evidence we will use to determine your grade
  • you will not be told what grade has been submitted for you

Evidence

  • a range of evidence can be used, such as mocks, tests and work you have already done
  • non-exam assessment, often known as coursework, should continue
  • non-exam assessment can be used as evidence even if incomplete
  • schools can use questions provided by exam boards if they choose to do so
  • we must follow guidance when determining your grades and the exam boards will check we have done so

Results Day

  • GCSE: 12 August
